Sphere group Chat app- that connects strangers interested in common topics was founded by Mr. D’Aloisio and Tomas Halgas. Recently, Nick sold his Company to Twitter.
Nick D’Aloisio is a serial entrepreneur who sold his first start-up to Yahoo when he was 17 years old.
What is Sphere?
The sphere is a real-time question and answers app founded in 2016. It involves micropayments before it pivoted to become more than a group chat.
Moreover, it raises almost $30 million from different investors including Index Ventures, Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky, Tinder co-founder Sean Rad and Sequoia venture capitalist Mike Moritz.
The announcement came from Twitter for acquiring Sphere.
Talking to CNBC on a Call, D’Aloisio says, ‘’ It’s really important and necessary to achieve impact to partner with the right companies at the right time that has similar visions and ideas.’’
He added, roughly 500,000 people use the first version of the app, but he decline to comment on the latest user numbers.
Nick also says ‘’ everyone is happy’’ and approximately 20 sphere employees join Twitter. However, the identity has not been disclosed.
A blog post sphere said that it will be ‘’ winding down’’ its standalone product in November as a result of the acquisition. ‘’ obviously Sphere was our own thing and that’s no longer relevant to what Twitter is trying to achieve. ‘’
How sphere was started?
Nick started sphere when he was studying computer science and philosophy at the University of Oxford. He met his co-founder, Tomas Halgas at the university where they both decided to work on the app.
The sphere had the vision to connect people, and the founder says the team will work alongside Twitter employees to try to take the ‘’vision’’ they had at the sphere and ‘’ integrate that into various parts’’ of Twitter.
‘’ The sphere team’s expertise and leadership’s passion for finding ways to help people connect with help accelerate our communities, Nick said.
Twitter put forward its efforts to evolve. Recently the company attempted to acquire audio rooms app clubhouse. Eventually going to unveil its similar feature, twitter space.
Also, news-reading start-up scroll was acquired in May, which it says will be continuing into its service in the future.
Twitter’s efforts to acquire different start-ups help them to evolve and expand their businesses, and Sphere is another similar effort.
