The world of contemporary art is bursting with talent and one of the figures that stand out is Brett Ashby. He’s a multidisciplinary artist hailing from Naarm, Australia, and he has a very interesting journey. Brett is not just an artist, he’s a cancer survivor, a performer, a muralist, a director, an author, a songwriter, and so much more. With a career spanning over 15 years, he has already left a mark on the landscape of art.
Brett Ashby’s artistic journey began in the USA in 2009, where his photographic collage artworks, including a striking portrait of the 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama, resonated with art collectors at Art Basel in Miami.
A graduate of RMIT and MA Queens College Of Fine Art in London, his commissions have graced prestigious events and venues around the world. Including Sculpture by The Sea in Bondi, Art Basel, The Olsen Melbourne, Art Series Hotels, Cube Art Fair, New York & Miami. His unique performative and public art practice has led to his works being cherished in collections worldwide, from Texas to Berlin, and Cape Town to New York.
Today, Brett’s art practice is distinguished by his use of unconventional tools, specifically a skateboard or surfboard, to create his aura masterpieces. This unorthodox approach to art gives his work a unique and unforgettable quality. His artistic creations are infused with a poetic and intuitive sensitivity to the expressive potential of space, light, color, context, and materials. The resulting pieces are a reflection of his deep understanding of the interconnectedness between the human experience and the environment.
To witness the magic of Brett Ashby‘s art, one needs to look no further than ‘Inner Essence,’ a live art and performance gallery located in Docklands, Australia, where a collection of his notable works are on display. His artistic journey is a testament to the ability of art to move, inspire, and heal. Brett’s work, with its vibrant colors and inherent positive energy, aligns with principles of positive psychology, art therapy, and spirituality, offering viewers a therapeutic and transformative experience.
However, Brett’s artistic prowess extends far beyond the canvas and gallery walls. He is also a talented filmmaker, and his short film ‘The One I Love’ narrated in Russian received accolades and Best Short Film awards in 2023 from countries such as Italy, Switzerland, Serbia, and Russia. It was also honored as the Best Inspirational Film at the 8 & Halfilm Awards, Italy. This year, we eagerly anticipate the world premiere of his highly anticipated feature film ‘Bliss,’ created with his 2019 model (singer and songwriter) Cash Savage, which promises to be another milestone in his remarkable career.
In the world of luxury fine art, Brett Ashby’s paintings command prices ranging from $50,000 to an impressive $200,000 USD. Yet, he also made headlines in 2021 by venturing into the realm of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) with a listing valued at a staggering $30 million USD. This bold move was unveiled at Opa-Lochka Airport in Miami, an audacious gesture that showcased his determination to push artistic boundaries and explore new horizons.
Recently, Brett unveiled his exhibition ‘Gods,’ which features 12 sculptures, 14 bluestones (Metro rail and Pentridge) that took three and a half years to produce. This impressive collection can be viewed in the beautiful surroundings of the charmed garden at Broughton Hall, Jindivick in West Gippsland, cementing his reputation as a sculptor of incredible talent.
It is clear that Brett Ashby is a force of creativity and inspiration. His art touches the souls of those who experience it, whether through visual masterpieces, film, or music. Brett’s work is a great example of the power of art and the profound impact it can have on the human psyche.
