Australia is well-positioned to become a global leader in the critical minerals sector, as the world transitions to a net-zero economy and embraces green technologies. That’s the message of the Australian Critical Minerals Prospectus, which was released today by the Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell.
The Prospectus features 52 high-quality, investment ready projects that span the entire critical minerals supply chain, from mining and processing to value adding and manufacturing. These projects offer significant benefits for investors, such as access to Australia’s abundant and diverse mineral resources, a stable and secure economy, a robust regulatory framework, and a network of free trade agreements with key markets.
Critical minerals are essential for the production of advanced technologies, such as solar panels, electric vehicles, wind turbines, batteries, and defence equipment. They are also vital for Australia’s economic recovery and future prosperity, as they create new jobs, industries, and export opportunities.
The Prospectus highlights Australia’s competitive advantages in the critical minerals sector, such as:
- Australia has the world’s largest economic resources of lithium, rutile, zircon, nickel laterites, and rare earth elements.
- Australia is ranked in the top five countries for economic resources of cobalt, manganese ore, tantalum, tungsten, niobium, and vanadium.
