The Australian government is offering low-interest electric vehicle loans through a commonwealth bank to workers earning less than $100K. The federal government believes this will save them thousands of dollars in interest.
Workers, including police officers, firefighters, nurses, and teachers, will be able to acquire the loan regardless of their income. The interest rate on these loans is 5 percentage points lower than the standard rate. This can help save more than $8,000 in interest for a $40,000 loan repaid over seven years.
Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen announced a $150 million scheme to make electric vehicles more affordable. The workers can get the loan starting from January 1 at 5.4 per cent interest from the bank. According to Bowen, the upfront costs of electric vehicles are a challenge for Australians. However, one in three Australians is interested in electric vehicles as their next car.
Under this scheme, the car’s worth must be less than $55,000, making the new-brand Tesla Model 3 2025 eligible for purchase. However, due to the increasing popularity of EVs, more charging stations are required across the country. According to experts, the demand for charging stations will increase despite the government’s announcement of fast charges along major highways.
