Australian Economy Struggles To Recover As COVID Cases Rise – The Way Forward?

With the recent immediate surge in the rate of Covid-infections in the country, it has led Australian authorities scratching their heads and trying to control the delta variant of the virus.

The new delta variant if coronavirus was first detected in South-east Asia, in India.

Current Situation In Australia

The country was locked down due to the coronavirus pandemic and it relatively fared better than most other nations of the world, with fewer than 31,000 cases. Thanks to the strict social distances rules, border restrictions, patient and transmission tracking, and if course, the circuit-breaker lockdowns.

Some of the major regions of Australia were shut last week, including Sydney, the capital city of Australia’s most populous state, New South Wales, which has more than five million people.

It was Monday when New South Wales reported 35 new local cases as the authorities are occupied in taking strict action against individuals and companies who override the restrictions.

Restrictions

Premier Gladys said that it will be decided in the next few days whether the current restrictions in Sydney will be extended until the 9th of July or not. She solicited cooperation from the citizens and residents.

Last week in Australia, the national cabinet agreed to reduce by half the number of international flights arriving in the country, by the 14th of July.

This decision was a part of a four-step approach to pandemic recovery.

The Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has said that a pilot project will be tested at a number of airports that will allow the vaccinated travellers to self-isolate at home in order for the pressure to decrease on the Australian quarantine system.

‘Well Defined Goals And Objectives’

Australia is still in the early phase of the plan discussed above. This is the phase which focused on vaccines and social distancing norms, and to minimise community transmission, according to the Council of Ministers.

The following are the three phases of the initiative- vaccination, consolidation, and, finally, the opening of the borders.

According to the chairman of the Australia Business Council, the federal redevelopment plan actually requires higher precision for the SMEs to be confidence and be able to re-open.

“We need to have well-defined goals and objectives. We have a well-defined threshold. We want to be realistic, “she said Monday on CNBC’s” Squawk Box Asia.”

“The company, you can start with the planning process. The airlines are able to start with the planning process. As a small business you can start with the planning process. We need a little more accurate, ” she added.
