Australia Post is reorganising its enterprise data and intelligence into a ‘data lab’ role with the goal of “creating an AI-enabled Australia Post.”
Last week, the postal service began looking for a general manager for the data lab, which would be used to “prototype and test novel machine learning (ML) models, data solutions, and uncover automation and assistance opportunities,” according to the service.
The general manager will also be in charge of “enterprise data science and intelligence,” which will include strategy, capability, and value proposition to the rest of Australia Post’s company and customers.
iTnews was unable to confirm whether the data labs post is a redesigned replacement for Silvio Giorgio, who was previously Australia Post’s general manager of data science before joining Coles Group alongside several other technology leaders.
The new data labs director will report to Leonie Valentine, the former Google Melbourne managing director who joined Australia Post as executive general manager of customer experience and digital at the start of this year.
Valentine was hired as part of a larger reorganisation of the company’s leadership that was revealed earlier this year.
In the last year or so, Australia Post has revealed a number of data-driven projects, including AI-assisted parcel lodgement kiosks, workplace safety, and a digital twin of its delivery network.
