Australia Launches Global Talent Attraction Program

Global Talent Attraction Program

Global Talent Attraction Program

The Australian Academy of Science has launched a Global Talent Attraction Program to recruit top scientists, especially those leaving the United States. The goal is to strengthen Australia’s research and innovation sector.

The Academy sees this as a rare and urgent opportunity. It aims to bring global experts and returning Australians into key scientific roles across the country.

“We must act swiftly. Other countries are already moving to attract this talent,” said Professor Chennupati Jagadish, President of the Academy.

The program does not limit itself to specific institutions or disciplines. This flexibility allows the Academy to focus on excellence and align recruits with national priorities.

The Academy is calling on funders to support the program. Their investment, it said, will leave a lasting legacy for the nation.

Australia has previously benefited from international expertise. Professor Michelle Simmons boosted the country’s leadership in quantum computing. Professor Lidia Morawska brought world-leading knowledge in airborne disease transmission, helping shape the global COVID-19 response.

The Academy has created competitive relocation packages to attract global talent. Recruits can work in any Australian university, research organisation, or industry setting.

With over 70 years of international experience, the Academy is confident in managing this national effort. It recently demonstrated this capacity through its Ukraine–Australia Research Fund.

The Academy invites individuals and organisations to partner with them. For more details, contact philanthropy@science.org.au or call +61 6201 9460.
