Software Company Atlassian has announced to cut 500 jobs amid economic uncertainity. Co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar stated in an internal announcement that this decision was necessary to prioritize critical work for both current and future customers.
However, the company will be providing support for impacted employees during this challenging time.The two wrote,”We need to go further in rebalancing the skills we require to run faster at our company priorities,”
Most impacted teams would be program management,talent acquisition and research
Talking about this decision, they said that most impacted teams will be program management, talent acquisition and research and insights. Research and insights focuses on service design and user experience. It was established in 2017. Meanwhile, the blog doesn’t provide any information about how much it impacts individual teams.
Atlassian will be offering a global severance package to affected employees. It will be at least 15 weeks’ pay in addition to an extra week for each year of service. In addition, the company will allow employees who have been laid off to keep their laptops, which will be remotely wiped.

Additionally, the company will continue to sponsor healthcare for a period of six months. The company aims to support affected employees during the transition period with these measures. Further, the company will allow the employers to apply for open roles internally.
The co-founders wrote,“We encourage you to take the time for farewells, including writing goodbye blogs and sharing any handovers. Some of those leaving may not want to do any of this – and that’s okay too,”
To ensure the security of sensitive data, Atlassian will be locking the laptops of employees who have access to such information. Additionally, co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar will be hosting a “founder tour” next week. In this tour, they will address any questions that employees may have regarding the recent announcement.
