As per a report by Bloomberg News, Apple plans to implement its upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities through data centers that are supported by its own chips. This decision is made as the technology giant wants to smoothly incorporate generative AI features into its range of products.
The project entails Apple using their own chips in cloud-computing servers designed for handling advanced AI tasks that will be included in Apple devices. Sources who are knowledgeable about the subject disclosed this information to Bloomberg News.
Even though Apple has not replied to Reuters’ inquiry about this advancement, the report indicates that the processors in the servers will be similar to the ones used in Apple’s Mac computers. Additionally, it mentions that simpler AI tasks will still be handled on Apple devices.
It was reported that around three years ago, the choice was made to utilize the company’s own chips and cloud processing infrastructure for AI projects. Yet, Apple accelerated its schedule for implementation due to the increased excitement about AI technologies, spurred in part by the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, as stated in the report.
Recently, Apple introduced its new M4 chip, set to power the upcoming iPad Pro models and feature support for specific AI capabilities.
