Apple has made a significant entry into the metaverse market by unveiling its augmented-reality headset, the Vision Pro. Priced at $3499, the headset is more expensive than Meta’s current line of AR/VR devices dominating the market. Apple plans to launch the headset in the US early next year, followed by other countries in 2024. Alongside the headset, Apple announced several other products and features, including a 15-inch MacBook Air, the powerful M2 Ultra chip, and improvements to its iOS software and autocorrect feature. While Apple didn’t make major announcements about generative AI products, it integrated AI into smaller features like live voicemail transcriptions. The Vision Pro offers unique features such as eye-controlled content selection, gesture-based interactions, and an exterior display that allows users to maintain awareness of the outside world. The device utilizes the R1 chip for fast sensor processing and collaboration with apps from Adobe, Microsoft, Unity, and Disney+. Investors and tech enthusiasts are keen to see how Apple’s virtual reality vision aligns with Meta’s. Additionally, Apple introduced updates to its Mac lineup, including a new MacBook Air and Mac Pro powered by the M2 chip, signaling the transition away from Intel processors.
