Apple Inc’s Market Value Surpasses $3 Trillion, Driven by Optimism and Lower Inflation

Apple Inc’s stock market value achieved a significant milestone, crossing the $3 trillion mark for the first time during Friday’s trading session. The company’s shares rose 2.3% to $193.97, resulting in a market capitalization of $3.05 trillion, according to Refinitiv data. This marks the fourth consecutive record high close for Apple.

The surge in Apple’s market value is attributed to several factors, including positive signs of improving inflation and optimism surrounding the company’s expansion into new markets. Prominent growth stocks like Nvidia Corp and Tesla Inc also experienced substantial gains following a Commerce Department report indicating slower growth in the Personal Consumption Expenditure price index in May. This development suggests progress in the Federal Reserve’s efforts to combat inflation.

In 2023 alone, Apple’s stock has witnessed an impressive 49% surge, aligned with the rally of other high-value companies on Wall Street. Market participants are betting that the Federal Reserve is nearing the end of its interest rate hike campaign, while optimism about the potential of artificial intelligence also contributes to the positive sentiment.

Recent decline in profits

Despite a recent decline in revenue and profits, Apple’s financial results, released in May, surpassed analysts’ expectations. This, along with a consistent record of stock buybacks, reinforces the company’s reputation as a safe investment option during times of global economic uncertainty.

Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth, hailed Apple as one of the greatest publicly traded companies, highlighting its growth, diversification of revenue streams, shareholder-friendly management, stock buybacks, dividends, and strong financial position.

Costly Augmented Reality Headset

Apple’s achievement of the $3 trillion milestone coincides with the launch of its costly augmented-reality headset on June 5. Since the launch, Apple’s stock has climbed approximately 7%, surpassing the 4% rise of the S&P 500. The recent gains in Apple’s shares have exceeded analysts’ earnings estimates, resulting in a trading multiple of over 29 times expected earnings, the highest since January 2022.

While Apple leads with a $3 trillion market value, four other U.S. companies – Alphabet Inc, Amazon.com Inc, Nvidia, and Microsoft Corp – also boast valuations exceeding $1 trillion. The strong performance of Tesla, Meta Platforms Inc, and Nvidia has propelled these companies into the trillion-dollar club as well.
