An ‘electrical incident’ has impacted SA Health’s ICT systems

SA Health’s ICT teams worked throughout the night to restore access to its electronic medical record system, Sunrise, and other systems following an “electrical incident” at one of its data centres. The cause of the incident is unclear, but reports suggest a power loss led to a cooling system outage, which affected equipment hosted at the site. Some sources reported that a fire may have caused the power problems, but this could not be confirmed. SA Health enacted business continuity plans at all hospitals and implemented paper reporting and telephone services to manage patients until the systems were restored. The health service advised patients with hospital appointments to attend them as usual, but warned that processes may be slower than normal. SA Health is working to restore all impacted systems as quickly as possible.
