Amazon’s New Job Listing Reveals Its Plans To Accept Crypto Payments

Amazon has posted a job opening and it has sent bells ringing in the crypto world! Why?

Amazon plans to hire a digital currency and blockchain product expert for its payment department, according to the new job listing by the company.

First reported by the Business tabloid Insider, the ecommerce giant is searching for “an experienced product leader to develop a Digital Currency and Blockchain product roadmap strategy.” Amazon has confirmed its job listig as well.

What Is The Job About?

The listing reads: You will leverage your domain expertise in Blockchain, Distributed Ledger, Central Bank Digital Currencies and Cryptocurrency to develop the case for the capabilities which should be developed, drive overall vision and product strategy, and gain leadership buy-in and investment for new capabilities.

Amazon.com does not accept payment as cryptocurrency as a payment at the moment but a company spokesman informed the Insider publication that the company was “encouraged to see the innovations happening in cryptocurrency space and are exploring how this might benefit Amazon.”

What Are Other Companies Doing?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) department already has a blockchain managed service.

But CEO Andy Jassy said in 2017 when he was the head of the AWS segment of the company that they were “looking at” the crypto space but Amazon did not see “practical blockchain use cases much broader than using a distributed ledger,” ZDNet reported at the time.

All those statements can change when this new listing is filled!

Apple submitted a similar job opening in May for their business development team. They were looking for a manager for “alternative payments,” and among the key qualifications for the role was five years of experience “working in or with alternative payment providers, such as digital wallets, BNPL, Fast Payments, cryptocurrency and etc.”
