ADHA, HL7 Australia training for healthcare software developers

The Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) and HL7 Australia plan to launch a training program in May aimed at addressing the shortage of skills in the healthcare software sector.

ADHA’s Chief Digital Officer Peter O’Halloran said that while there has been an explosion in available software due to the advent of digital health, interoperability remains the sector’s greatest challenge.

The training program will be specific to the Fast Healthcare Interoperable Resource (FHIR) standard, and will be offered in partnership with CSIRO and the University of Melbourne.

The partners expect to offer 370 developer training places in 2023. The aim is to break down the silos in healthcare IT, and to use industry-standard concepts to put a healthcare spin on them for the bits that need to be different. O’Halloran believes that the training will address a significant shortage in the sector, with tangible outcomes expected this year.
