The South Korean Company Samsung unveiled two 5G-enabled flip foldable smartphones under its Galaxy. The new models are the world’s first water-resistant foldable smartphones.
It’s a big step Samsung has taken towards mainstream flip-screen smartphones with the launch of Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z flip 3 waterproof models as part of its big tech event for the second half of 2021.
The company aims to make foldable technology more attractive, affordable, and user-friendly.
“We can deliver the world’s first water-resistant foldable smartphones by implementing the innovative sealing design … with all of these innovations, foldable smartphones are set to become the new standard in mobile devices as the category turns mainstream,” Mr. Choi said.
“Samsung will be the leading and foremost provider [of foldable smartphones], driving volume beyond the market demand … I am confident that with our new series, we can drive record high demand for foldable, inviting more consumers to enjoy the new way of using a smartphone,” he said.
New Models Specifications
The new models Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 models come with brighter displays, bigger batteries, stronger cases, artificial intelligence-powered cameras, and more user-friendly features, said Samsung.
The price in the US market for the new models Z fold 3 and Z Flip 3 start from $ 1799.90 and $999.90, respectively. Meanwhile, the price slightly varies in other regions.
“These [foldable] devices have to be as durable as traditional flagship models [the Note and S series] to ensure consumers are not sacrificing anything as they move to foldable technology,” Samsung said.
“For the new foldable series, we had a big mission – durability … so that our customers can use them with peace of mind for everyday extended use. We started from scratch to make the impossible possible,” said Won-Joon Choi, executive vice president and head of product research and development at Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy S7 has an IP68 like all other devices from the Samsung Galaxy S series. This means that all these smartphones’ survival is up to 30 minutes at a maximum depth of 1.5 meters.
It is one of the biggest breakthroughs for smart devices and will encourage innovative ideas and designs including water resistance in near future.
The Z Flip3 will cost £949 (€1,049) and the Z Fold3 will cost £1,599 (€1,799), available from August 27.
