Former WA Premier Mark McGowan Takes on New Roles After Exiting Top Job

Former Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan has wasted no time in transitioning to a new phase of his career, taking on four new roles shortly after stepping down from his position as the state’s leader.

McGowan’s decision to step down in May came as a surprise to many, considering his six-year tenure and the high approval ratings he enjoyed throughout his time in office.

At the age of 55, Mark McGowan has embarked on a fresh chapter, one that involves working alongside prominent political figures such as ex-Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey.

While some speculated that McGowan might take a well-deserved break after the demands of governing Western Australia, he has proven that he is ready and eager to continue contributing to public service in different capacities.

He expressed his profound fatigue from guiding the state during the Covid-19 pandemic and stated that he lacked “the necessary energy or motivation to carry on.” Following his resignation, Mr McGowan assumed a fresh position as a senior advisor at the consultancy firm Bondi Partners.

The company is under the leadership of former Federal Treasurer and US Ambassador Joe Hockey and is dedicated to “enhancing the trade and investment collaboration between Australia and the United States to new heights.”

Mr. Hockey established this consultancy firm in Washington in 2020. On the Bondi Partners’ website, Mr. McGowan’s profile highlights that he served as the 30th Premier of Western Australia, guiding his state through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and overseeing remarkable economic achievements that garnered admiration not only across the nation but also globally.
