Qantas Freight Faces Delays Following Cloud-Based System Cutover

Qantas Freight is experiencing significant delays in its operations after a cutover to a new cloud-based system did not go as planned. The issues have disrupted freight collections, processing, and movement, causing significant backlogs in key terminals in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Additional staff has been brought in to assist with processing and collection.

The cutover to the new system took place on September 24 after months of testing and validation but encountered complications, leading to delays and the need to revert to manual processes. International shipments have also been affected due to linking issues with Australian Customs.

The cloud-based system was introduced to provide better functionality and streamline processes for customers. Qantas Freight has apologized for the ongoing issues and is working to expedite clearance for urgent freight while extending hours of operation in selected ports to address the delays.

This situation highlights the challenges and potential disruptions that can arise during technology transitions, emphasizing the importance of thorough testing and contingency plans when implementing new systems.
