Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind and CEO of Inflection AI, has called for stricter controls over the use of Nvidia’s AI chips in the United States.
Suleyman suggests that the US should enforce global standards for AI use, with companies committing to ethical guidelines similar to those agreed upon by leading AI firms with the White House in July. These measures include watermarking AI-generated content to enhance safety.
The US has expanded restrictions on the export of advanced AI chips, including Nvidia’s, beyond China to other regions, including the Middle East. Suleyman’s proposal could apply to consumers of Nvidia chips globally.Suleyman is also the CEO of Inflection AI, a Microsoft-backed startup that raised $1.3 billion in June from Nvidia and other investors. Inflection AI has developed Pi, an AI chatbot powered by generative AI technology.
Suleyman’s call highlights the need for AI developers to collaborate with policymakers and regulatory authorities to ensure responsible and ethical AI use.Addressing ethical concerns surrounding AI technology is essential as its applications continue to expand across various industries and sectors.
