Woolworths Group Prioritizes Digital Growth and Allocates $2 Billion for Investments

Woolworths Group is focusing on expanding its digital capabilities, considering them crucial for its future. The company plans to invest about $2 billion in the coming fiscal year across its online operations, technology, and stores.

This budget includes $40 million for improving team safety through CCTV upgrades and wearable devices. The CEO, Brad Banducci, stressed the significance of strengthening their infrastructure for enhanced efficiency and resilience.

This strategy aims to reinforce the company’s core, ensure growth, and create lasting value for shareholders.In the previous fiscal year, Woolworths Group spent $274 million on IT, up from $197 million the year before. Digital spending also rose to $151 million, up from $121 million.

Woolworths’ online division, WooliesX, achieved solid results in the second half of the year with total sales reaching $6.432 billion, a 5.6% increase.The company’s ecommerce sales reached $5.1 billion, marking a substantial growth of $3.7 billion. Over 80% of online sales are now delivered within 24 hours.

The supply chain improvement efforts will continue, including the opening of an ecommerce fulfillment center and a new distribution center in Sydney.Despite challenges, Woolworths’ overall financial performance improved, with sales increasing by 5.7% to $64.3 billion.
