The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is in the process of recruiting a new Chief Information Officer (CIO), indicating a potential departure of the current CIO, Doug Jenkins.
Although neither APRA nor Doug Jenkins have officially confirmed his departure, a recent job posting for the position of CIO suggests a transition. The advertised role involves leading the technology business unit within APRA’s technology and data division.
The main focus of the role is to collaborate with key stakeholders in developing and executing a forward-looking technology strategy, implementation roadmap, and architecture. These initiatives are expected to align with APRA’s broader technology and data transformation and its corporate plan.
Based in Sydney, the position is situated within APRA’s technology and data division, which was established in February. This restructuring combined the enterprise services technology team with the core data capabilities teams from the data analytics and insights division. Additionally, the reporting structure for the CIO was shifted from the chief operating officer of enterprise services to Bruce Young, who was promoted to executive director of the new technology and data division.
These changes were part of a larger organizational restructuring designed to help APRA achieve its corporate plan objectives, which are focused on safeguarding the present community while preparing for an evolving environment.
In a similar move last month, APRA appointed Surabhi Jain from Westpac as the inaugural Chief Data Officer to lead the data branch of the technology and data division.
Doug Jenkins has served as APRA’s CIO since 2015, having previously worked at organizations such as Macquarie Group, Calypso Technology, and JP Morgan. While his departure has not been officially confirmed, the search for a new CIO indicates a potential change in leadership.
