Tim Hume, the Chief Information and Digital Officer (CIDO) of Macquarie University, has left his position. Hume initially took on the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) in 2019 and transitioned to the CIDO role in March of the following year when his responsibilities expanded to include overseeing the university’s digital transformation.
While Hume’s departure is being addressed through interim arrangements, Jonathan Covell, the Deputy Chief Information Officer, will serve as the acting CIO during the search for a permanent replacement. In the meantime, Vanessa Tam, the Director of Strategy, and Hannah Latham, the Director of Digital Transformation Delivery, will jointly lead the university’s digital transformation strategy until a new CIDO is appointed.
On LinkedIn, Hume shared that his last day at Macquarie University was last Friday, after serving four years as the Chief Information and Digital Officer. He mentioned that the university’s digital transformation is at a crucial stage, with a major Salesforce implementation project on the horizon, making it an opportune time for a leadership transition in the IT and digital realm. Hume expressed confidence in the university’s IT leadership team, describing them as strong, cohesive, and highly capable.
He reassured staff members that with the interim arrangements in place, the university will continue to operate smoothly without any disruptions. Hume highlighted the effectiveness of the IT operating model transformation, the clear separation between business-as-usual operations and projects, the established governance processes for project prioritization and approvals, and the Project Management Office (PMO) frameworks that contribute to the seamless functioning of IT operations.
