GitLab soars on a new AI-powered product plan

GitLab, a popular software development platform, experienced a significant surge in its shares, increasing by over 35 percent, following its announcement of an upcoming AI-powered product aimed at boosting revenue.

The new offering, called “ModelOps,” will be integrated into GitLab’s primary “DevSecOps” platform and will introduce advanced features including code writing suggestions. Targeting software developers who extensively use GitLab for coding work, the product is slated to launch later this year at a monthly subscription price of $9.

In an investor note, analysts from Bank of America, led by Koji Ikeda, expressed optimism about the potential of the new product, stating that it could serve as a substantial growth driver in FY25.

GitLab’s stock experienced its largest one-day percentage increase since going public in 2021, surging as much as 35.4 percent. This positive market response was further supported by GitLab’s announcement earlier in the week that its first-quarter revenue had risen by 45 percent to $126.9 million ($190 million), surpassing both the Refinitiv consensus estimate and the company’s own earlier forecasts.

In light of these developments, several analysts raised their price targets for GitLab’s stock, reflecting the market’s positive outlook for the company’s future growth prospects.
