Vocus appoints a new CIO

Vocus, a telecommunications company, has appointed Rob Ison as its Chief Information Officer (CIO) to take on the technology responsibilities previously handled by the Chief Operating Officer (COO). Ison joined Vocus last month and assumed the IT responsibilities that were previously managed by COO Ellie Sweeney, who transitioned to the role of Vocus CEO in March.

Sweeney stated in an internal announcement that Vocus had made significant investments in digitizing its network, business, and processes in recent years. At the same time, cybersecurity has emerged as a critical issue for both Vocus and its customers. These factors led to the need for a dedicated function focusing on security and digital initiatives.

Sweeney expressed her pleasure in welcoming Rob Ison as the new CIO of Vocus. Ison brings extensive experience in digital transformation and enterprise architecture design, which will contribute to enhancing the experiences of customers, users, and employees. The newly formed division will also include the security team, taking responsibility for operations and data security in an environment with increased threats and regulatory oversight.

Rob Ison previously held various roles during his 17-year tenure at Telstra, with his most recent position being B2B Digital Transformation Executive. He took a career break in the past year before joining Vocus.
