Woolworths Increases Price of Beloved Roast Chicken

Woolworths, one of Australia’s leading supermarkets, has recently announced an increase in the price of one of its most popular items – its roast chickens. The supermarket’s roast chickens are now up to $12 for the first time since February 2022, due to an increase in input costs.

The new price has been met with mixed reactions from shoppers. Many customers have expressed their disappointment, noting that the price increase is significant and could break their budget. However, others have expressed understanding for the company’s decision and have accepted the price increase.

The supermarkets in Australia are known for their competitive pricing and it is not uncommon for one to reduce or increase prices on certain products in order to stay competitive. In 2015, the two biggest supermarket chains in Australia, Coles and Woolworths, announced that they would be slashing the prices on their roast chickens from $11 to $8. This was seen as a major victory for consumers, who would be able to save money on one of their staple grocery items.

However, this price cut did not last for long. After three years of the price staying at its lowest point, the supermarkets announced that they would be raising the price by $1 back to $9. This was met with a lot of criticism from consumers, who had become used to the lower prices and were not happy to see them go up.
