Big Shed Brewing’s mango sour beer has been recalled by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) due to secondary fermentation, a process that can cause the beer to become unsafe to drink.
The recall was announced on Friday and affects Big Shed Brewing’s mango sour beer, which is sold in Australia. FSANZ warned that the beer could cause injury if drunk, and advised consumers to discard the product immediately.
The process of breaking down sugars into alcohol during fermentation continues in the can during secondary fermentation. Yeast is one of the substances involved in this process.
“Consumers should not drink or open any food products containing excess alcohol and carbonation, as they may lead to illness or injury if consumed. It is advised to safely dispose of these products,” said FSANZ in a statement.
Based in Adelaide, Big Shed Brewing has seen its product sold in bars and independent bottle shops in New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland, and South Australia, as well as offered online nationally.
