The Biden administration is set to investigate the use of technology by companies to monitor and manage their employees, citing the potential for “serious risks to workers.”
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy has requested input from employees, employers, and software vendors to understand how surveillance technology is being used and developed.
While such technology can benefit both employers and workers, it can also lead to worker surveillance, discrimination, and violations of privacy. The Biden administration has made labor issues a focal point of its economic policies, as wages have struggled to keep up with rising costs of basic necessities like housing.
