36 People Tested New South Wales Digital ID

NSW Digital ID is in the pilot face, and is tested by 36 people for its efficacy and age verification. The Service NSW app used Digital ID stored on the user’s device.The pilot began in February 2023, aiming to test the setup process and proof-of-age verification.

According to a spokesperson from Digital.NSW, the pilot involved 36 participants successfully setting up their NSW Digital ID, including photo verification, to enhance security.The digital wallet Beta utilizes face-matching technology at the highest level of verification under the Digital Transformation Agency’s trusted digital identity framework, apart from in-person verification.

The government reported that the pilot tests received over 90 percent satisfaction scores from participants.The next phase of the pilot will involve testing the use of Digital ID in various transactions before considering a broader rollout.

In addition to setup testing, the government collaborated with Mastercard and Tipple, a drink delivery service, to conduct a proof-of-age test.The purpose of the Digital ID is to give individuals control over sharing their personal data, preventing oversharing, and ensuring privacy.

Minister for customer service and digital government, Jihad Dib, stated that Digital ID empowers consumers by allowing them to rent a car or buy alcohol without disclosing personal information.Digital NSW utilized several security and privacy frameworks, both internal and external, during the design of Digital ID.

The NSW Digital ID will be made available once rigorous testing, audits, and reviews are completed to ensure the safety and security of information.
