APRA establishes a new data and technology division

A new technology and data section has been established by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), and Bruce Young has been named its director.

The enterprise services technology team and the core data capabilities teams from the data analytics and insights division have been combined into a new division.

Young will transition from his present post as general manager of operational resilience at APRA to the new executive director position, according to the regulator.

Doug Jenkins, the APRA’s chief information officer, will now report directly to Young as opposed to Steve Matthews, the chief operating officer of enterprise services.

According to APRA, the restructuring mainly aims to improve competence in terms of technology and data.

The adjustments were made as part of a larger reorganisation designed to help APRA achieve its corporate plan objectives, which centre on “twin themes” of protecting the community of today while becoming ready for an environment that is changing quickly.

A few more changes included the appointment of Renée Roberts as executive director of banking, Clare Gibney as executive director of policy and guidance, and Carmen Beverley-Smith as executive director of superannuation.
