Officeworks has emerged as a pioneer in the adoption of a new middleware product intended to address browser compatibility difficulties with earlier iterations of business software like SAP.
The retailer uses an ECC 6.0 and SAP CRM 7.0 SAP core, which formerly required call centre agents to use an IE11 browser. June 15 marked the end of IE11.
Officeworks’ SAP system could only be accessed through IE11, thus the retailer needed another browser to successfully use its key CRM system. Otherwise, it ran the risk of losing the ability to help consumers through its call centre and online, according to a statement from Rimini Street.
According to a statement from Officeworks COO Michael Howard, the retailer is “protected against present and future browser compatibility difficulties and able to obtain the same functionality it wanted to experience, but through different browsers such as Chrome or Edge.”
The company is stated to have thought about upgrading the SAP core, but because it is substantially customised, like many SAP settings, pursuing such a programme of work would have been “expensive.”
It is unknown if the retailer intends to pursue a similar SAP upgrade in the future.
Nikala Busse was recently appointed as the company’s first chief information officer, giving Officeworks fresh technological direction.
