Online Community Platform Company ‘Reddit’ To Open New Office In Sydney

The social network known to many as the platform of controversies, memes, and news is coming to Australia.

Reddit will officially open an office in NSW capital Sydney on Monday .

This is going to be the first presence of this multi-billion dollar company in the Southern Hemisphere and just a third outside the United States – with the aim of increasing its Australian viewers and challenge the likes of Facebook and Twitter.

David Ray To Head Reddit Australia

The local arm of the world’s most popular news board will be led by former Woolworths, Twitter and Amazon CEO David Ray.

Reddit chief operations officer Jen Wong revealed that the company had chosen Australia as its target project after local audiences grew by more than 40 percent this year to become the world’s fourth largest user base.

Why Is Reddit Coming To Australia?

“We have been fortunate to experience strong user growth from our Australian users in recent years and this also comes with a significant opportunity to enhance our local offerings in a very focused and uncomplicated way,” said Ms Wong.

“From building our most cooperative communities in Australia to finding local product homes on the platform, this launch is just the beginning of our investment in the market and is the key to our broader global vision as we continue to expand Reddit faster.”

Employment Opportunities To Aussies

The Reddit COO has also mentioned that Reddit Australia would focus on employing Australians in marketing, engineering, sales, and community works. They seek to be recruiting professionals, influencers, and interest groups to set up a presence on Reddit.

“Reddit has been around for 16 years and, if you think about it, some of these major sub-Reddit communities have had a huge impact in the world.”

Reddit currently has more than 52 million daily active users on its platform, including the r / Australian community with more than 700,000 members.

Reddit users share videos, photos, texts and web links that can be upvoted/downvoted by the fellow users across more than 100,000 Reddit channels that are known as subreddits
