Plans for Bank of Queensland’s clouds acquire an Azure tint

In a five-year strategic relationship, The Bank of Queensland has announced the next stage of its digital transformation and selected Microsoft as its preferred cloud provider.

The bank made intentions to “leave its traditional data centres” in July and transition to a cloud-only business model.

The plan, according to CEO George Frazis, is to become a “single, cloud-based, digital retail bank”.

According to the terms of the agreement, the bank will “gradually transfer its technological infrastructure and applications to Microsoft Azure by 2025,” according to a statement from Microsoft.

As the two businesses test and jointly build products for that market, the bank will also become the first Microsoft Cloud for Financial Services customer in Australia and New Zealand.

A “one 360-degree customer view” will be created using Microsoft Cloud for Financial Services for all of BoQ’s brands.

For the bank’s digital transformation, Microsoft will supply a group of global and regional executives with engineering teams in Australia and the US.

Since the bank implemented Dynamics 365, BoQ has collaborated with Microsoft. During that same year, the vendor also backed BoQ’s Banker X initiative.

BoQ distributed Office 365 to its employees during Banker X, coupled with tools like the Microsoft Surface to allow hybrid working.
