According to Samsung, a July breach compromised some US customer data

In late July, Samsung Electronics experienced a cyber security incident that resulted in the exposure of some American customers’ personal data.

Social security and credit card numbers were not impacted, but name, contact, and demographic information, date of birth, and product registration information were, according to Samsung.

How many clients were impacted was unclear at first. A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Samsung.

In a security advisory, Samsung stated that “in late July 2022, an unauthorised third party got information from several of Samsung’s US systems.”

“We discovered through our continuing investigation that certain customers’ personal information was compromised on or about August 4, 2022.

“We are working with law enforcement and have taken steps to secure the impacted systems,” the statement continued. “We have also hired a top independent cyber security firm.”

The business stated that each customer’s data exposure “may vary.” Customers that are impacted are being contacted.
