The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued an urgent safety recall for the Decathlon Snorkelling Inflatable Wand Float due to concerns that the product may pose a serious drowning risk.
The float, which is designed for children aged three and up, is an inflatable wand with an attached float that is meant to be used in water. However, the ACCC is concerned that the float could deflate unexpectedly, leaving children at risk of drowning.
The product does not comply with the requirements of the “Consumer Goods (Aquatic Toys) Safety Standard 2020, and hence poses a serious threat to children when swimming.
The product was sold both online and in store. In NSW, it was sold at Tempe, Auburn, and Miranda. In Victoria, it was sold at Box Hill, Moorabbin, Knoxfield, and South Morang.
The ACCC is urging all consumers who have purchased the float to return it to Decathlon for a refund. Consumers can contact Decathlon’s Customer Relations Centre by contacting at contact@decathlon.com or at www.decathlon.com.au.
The watchdog advises consumers to always check for product recalls before using any floatation device. You can check for recalls on the ACCC website or by subscribing to the ACCC’s Product Safety Recall Notification Service.
