Subsidized solar battery systems in NSW

Solar batteries are set to become more accessible to New South Wales (NSW) residents with the introduction of a new subsidized battery scheme by the State Government.

Homes and businesses with existing solar panels can now purchase subsidized batteries to store solar energy. The federal government will cover the $1,600 to $2,400 upfront installation fee for this battery.

The program will cover all costs for solar battery installations for those without solar panels.

Additional incentives of $250 to $400 are available for adding a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), which can be reapplied for after three years. VPPs connect households and businesses to a shared energy grid, increasing overall energy efficiency.

Starting November 1st, the program will be accessed through approved solar providers that will be approved in the coming months

Government subsidies and renewable energy reform

NSW Minister for Climate Change and Energy Penny Sharpe stressed the scheme would help the state transition to renewable energy and help families save on electricity bills.

“More than a million NSW homes have solar panels on their roofs and adding batteries will continue to benefit them, not just when the sun is shining,” Sharpe said “We are reducing the cost of charging homes and businesses.” about and increase Enables power holders to take the next step toward reducing their costs through renewable energy.

The move follows a report that Australia is not yet fully ready for the proposed transition to renewable energy.
