King Charles Royal visit to Australia is in doubt after the monarch was diagnosed with cancer. The news was revealed by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. King Charles 75 has started treatment and postponed his public duties.
Since 2018, the king has not visited Australia. The king along with his wife Camilla had an expected tour to Australia late this year. According to Nine Newspaper, the king was planning to visit New Zealand and Australia. The tour was expected in the month of October,2024.
The trip was “relatively locked-in”, according to the Australian Monarchist League. The league’s chairman, Eric Abetz, said on ABC TV that the palace had expressed a wish to visit Australia along with Samoa. He said many people were looking forward to it.
However, he added that they would have to wait and see what the medical advice was regarding the king’s ability to attend Chogm and Australia. He conveyed the best wishes of all Australians to the king and his family.
Meanwhile, Australian Prime minister, Anthony Albanese said that news was difficult. Talking to reporters in Canberra he said, ‘’All Australians will be sending their best wishes to King Charles for a speedy recovery.’’
He added, ‘’We want to see his majesty return with full duties as soon as possible. We have invited king Charles to visit Australia and we sincerely hope that is able to occur.’’
The king’s cancer was diagnosed during recent treatment for an enlarged prostate.
