NSW Telco Seek a New Cyber Security Director

The NSW Telco Authority is looking for a director of networks and cyber security. This is a senior role that reports to the chief digital and technology officer, James Pickens. He has been in this position since July 2022.

The director will prepare the authority’s cyber security technology roadmap. They will also lead the cyber risk programs and improve the cyber resilience capabilities of the authority.

The authority said that the previous director left the role to take another senior cyber security role in the government. They did not reveal the name of the person.

The authority needs a director who can increase its “cyber protection maturity”. The director will oversee the security operations and the response to high profile incidents in the division.

The director will also secure “the protected environment managing the Public Safety Network” (PSN). The PSN is a network for emergency services such as fire, police, SES and ambulance. The PSN has been upgrading since 2016, but it has cost more than expected. A report from June 2023 said that the original budget of $400 million increased to nearly $1.3 billion. The report also said that the full integration of emergency services into the PSN will not happen until 2027.
