Southwest Airlines has become the latest American aviation company to try to get its workers to be vaccinated as infection rates are on the rise in the US.
The company has said that it would pay a bonus to employees who take the initiative to get themselves jabbed. Also, Southwest Airlines would also stop paid sick leave for workers who weren’t vaccinated.
Biden’s Vaccine Mandate
Southwest Airlines says it does not support Joe Biden’s mandate of compulsory vaccination for firms, but plans to comply with the executive order.
Delta, American and United Airlines have all done the same recently.
In a reminder to workers, the South West said those who submitted proof of vaccination to the company by November 15 would receive an additional pay equal to 16 hours.
“If you have not been vaccinated and choose to do so, this timeline gives you enough time to receive both rounds of a two-series vaccine or the single-dose vaccine,” the airline wrote.
What Are Other Companies Doing?
The Department of Labor is soon going to impose Covid jabs mandate on major private companies and government employers in the coming weeks, affecting up to 100 million American workers.
Delta outbreak of COVID is raging across the US, but the rollout of vaccines remains slow among some hesitant communities.
The incoming vaccine mandate of the Biden administration is well-received by most big businesses, but Republican lawmakers have threatened to sue them because the law is unconstitutional.
Some firms have already come up with their own incentives, including United Airlines, the first US airline to demand that all employees be vaccinated.
