3D mapping is now available on the NSW planning portal

The 3D digital mapping feature for subdivision and strata plans at the NSW Planning Portal has been turned on by the state of NSW.

The 3D mapping feature is intended to revolutionise how applicants and evaluating authorities see applications via the Planning Portal, for subdivision and stratum developers. It is a part of the digital transformation of the state’s planning system.

The award-winning Spatial Digital Twin, which combines government data sources to offer insights for developers and people to support decision-making and design the communities of the future, has already changed how we perceive the world around us, according to executive director Narelle Underwood.

Underwood continued, “People can better understand the impact of development applications and subdivision certificate applications while lowering the time it takes to manually review and digitise material.” This is because to the digital mapping of subdivision and stratum data.

Draft strata plans can now be shown in three dimensions, which makes it easier for assessing bodies like local councils and private certifiers to understand what might be quite complicated plans in paper form. It also enhances quality controls and enables more efficient community interaction.

The mapping is a component of a plan to allow consumers access to planning services and information online, at any time and from any location.

According to Underwood, “the portal’s digital planning services, mapping tools, and reporting tools assist everyone involved in a proposed development and are helping to improve application determination times, increase planning system transparency, and ensure greater accountability of all stakeholders.”

In a project that began in June, the digital twin for spatial services, which initially went live in 2020, is being improved using gravity data.
