Australians will be in for a treat next week with the Powerball jackpot climbing to an eye-watering $100 million for Thursday, June 22nd draw. After no division one winner for the $60 million prize was produced in the draw this week, it marks the first time in 2023 that the Powerball Jackpot has hit such a high figure, making it the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game so far this year.
The Powerball is a lottery game commonly played in Australia and New Zealand and an offshoot of the renowned Saturday draw games. Played using two barrels of numbers, plus a Powerball number, players win the jackpot by matching all of the seven main numbers drawn ever week.
James Eddy, the spokesman for The Lott, encouraged eager entrants to purchase their tickets in advance.
“We anticipate increased activity both in-store and online in anticipation of the upcoming Thursday draw, due to the size of the jackpot being the largest in Australia since December 2022,” he said.
Given the deepening economic hardship in Australia, it is easy to fathom why around half of the adult population is expected to purchase a lottery ticket.
“If they were to win a chunk of the colossal Powerball jackpot next week, players could quite easily achieve their ambitions, be they a luxurious vacation, early retirement, the perfect house or anything else they may yearn for,” Mr Eddy said.
